The Archives of Ellis Island is a curated exploration of a site shaped by migration, memory, and transformation. This book weaves together historical records, evolving architectural floor plans, and visual documentation to reflect the layered narrative of Ellis Island over time.

Combining archival materials with contemporary design, the book presents decades of floor plans and proposed renovations, tracing the shifting intentions projected onto the space. Interspersed throughout are the works of three photographers, whose images document the island’s physical and emotional erosion—revealing how time marks not only surfaces, but collective memory.

The design balances structure with atmosphere: careful pacing, restrained typography, and material choices echo the institutional history while allowing moments of reflection. Through this interplay of text, diagram, and image, the book becomes more than a record—it becomes a meditation on impermanence, preservation, and the spaces where personal and national histories intersect.
